Description

This fine watercolour study depicts a man seated in an interior smoking his pipe. The man leans on the linen covered table from his chair, looking up to the small caged birds in the corner of the room. The artist captures the scene in fine detail, paying particular attention to the man's coat and slightly disgruntled expression. Signed and dated to the lower right. Well presented in a wooden frame with a gilt slip and white card mount. On paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. The is a small tear to the upper right that has been repaired.

Artist Biography

Frank Brooks (1854-1937) was born in Salisbury the son of an artist Henry Brooks. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers. Examples of his work are in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery and Bristol Art Gallery.
