Description

A fine 19th Century strike of the etching by Francis Holl Francis Holl, ARA (1815–1884) after the original painting by William Powell Frith, R.A. (1819-1909). A crowded scene in a courtyard with figures in Tudor dress drinking and feasting, others watching as a young man descends the steps at right, a man at the foot reading from a scroll, a kneeling figure beside him bearing a helmet to present to the boy, whose parents watch proudly from the doorway above. The engraving has been finished with later hand colouring. The title and artist's names are inscribed in plate along the lower edge. The engraving has been presented in a early 20th Century dark wood frame with gilt inner window. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. The frame has some scuffing.
