The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Some light scuffing to the frame.

Artist Biography
paint and printmaker born in Holyhead, Anglesey. the trained at Glasgow School of Art where the met his future brother-in-law and lifelong friend, paint and etcher Muirhead Bone. In 1893 Dodd won the Haldane Scholarship and furthered his studies in Paris, Italy and later Spain. After his return to England, the was invited by Bernard Sickert to exhibit at the NEAC which brought him to the attention of a wider audience. Dodd began to exhibit at the RA in 1923 and was elected an associate in 1927 and a full member in 1935.
As an Official War Artist to the Ministry of Information during World War I, Dodd served on the Western Front and made portraits of British naval and military commanders, and was afterwards attached to the Admiralty to carry out drawings of submarines. These are now in the Imperial War Museum as are also portraits by him in the National Portrait Gallery, (a chalk sketch of Virginia Woolf), the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, the Hunterian Art Gallery, Glasgow and at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. the also has work in the Tate Gallery, BM, V&A, Museums Sheffield and in Manchester City Art Gallery. A retrospective exhibition was held at Cheltenham Art Gallery in 1944 and memorial exhibitions at the Bluecoat School, Liverpool, 1949, and the South London Art Gallery in 1950. Dodd gave a complete collection of his prints to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford in 1948. the died by his own hand at his home in Blackheath, London.
