A charming late 19th century watercolour by W. Forbes, depicting a steady canal horse towing his owner's barge along the canal. Chosen for their strength and stamina, horses played a crucial role in the canal age and were often seen as valued members of the crew or family. The watercolour has been signed by the artist to the lower right. Well-presented in an ornate gilt-effect frame with foliate strapwork. On watercolour paper.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some even discolouration and light foxing to the watercolour. Minor wear noticeable on all sides of the gilt coloured frame.
