This fine late 19th century oil captures an atmospheric harbour scene with bedraggled fishing boats and stone beach. The artist has used loose brushstrokes to emphasize the widy, foggy weather on the beach. With areas of impasto. Presented in a decorative gilt effect frame with beading detail and swept croners. Signed illegibly. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and craqueluree. Inspection under UV light reveals some areas of overpainting to the sky. Most noticeable to the right hand side. Small losses to the beading work along the outer edge of the frame. Overall in good condition.
