A figure opens a gate to guide cattle towards the barn in this idyllic late nineteenth-century rural scene. Doves peck at the ground near a ford in the foreground, whilst washing hangs to dry beside a small bridge further up the stream. Beyond, the warm orange glow of evening illuminates a large farmhouse. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Marks and scuffs to the frame, as well as some losses to the running patterns.
