Framed Early 20th Century Oil - Digging at Dawn
Description
This striking oil on canvas work depicts a labourer digging in a barren landscape, his bent form dominating the foreground against a dramatic early morning sky. The composition emphasises the figure's physical toil through dramatic foreshortening and earthy tones. Well presented in a gilt-effect frame with white slip. Unsigned. On canvas.Condition
The artwork exhibits signs of wear consistent with age. Craquelure is observed throughout the paint surface. Inspection under UV light reveals previous restoration. A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. Two previous tears to the canvas have been fully restored. The frame has minor surface wear, including small chips and staining to the white slip.
