Framed Early 19th Century Watercolour - Cayton Mill, Near Scarborough
Description
An interesting study of an old mill atop a rocky cliff face. Figures on the beach below converse while a small sailing boat makes its way out to sea. There is a small inscription taped to the reverse 'very early watercolour Clayton Mill nr. Scarbro.Yorks. Thought to be by Richardson'. Also with newspaper clippings detailing a similar study by Francis Nicholson (1753-1844). Although unlikely to be by Nicholson we assume that this watercolour is a copy by an unknown artist of the similarly titled work 'Cayton Mill' 1793 by Nicholson. Well presented in a washline mount and dark wood frame. Unsigned. On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. Small marks to the frame.
