A finely painted early 19th Century monochromatic watercolour on laid, depicting a river landscape with small fishing boats, figures, and a thatched hut. The artist has balanced the composition, with a distant church and intricate trees, and created an amble sense of depth through the use of foliage and delicate shading. Well-presented in a gilt wooden frame with lacquer detail and mount, bearing a 'conservation framing' label to the reverse. Unsigned. On laid.
Condition
There is surface discolouration and foxing, expected for a picture of this age. There is also some staining to the lower left quadrant, and an historic tear repair to the centre of the composition. Only minor marks and scuffing to the frame.
