The fascination in collecting miniature portraits originally arose due to the interest in the skill of the artist, as each portrait can be viewed as a unique and original work of art. This fine miniature portrait depicts the Duchess of Berry in evening dress and elaborate hat with ostrich feathers. Delicately painted on an ivory base, the artist has captured the sitter after a painting by Sir Thomas Laurence. A fragment of newspaper with the date 1803 has been preserved in the frame, which gives us an idea of when this miniature was painted. An inscription on the reverse of the portrait reads 'Duchesse de Berri'. Presented in an ebonised rectangular frame. This item cannot be shipped outside of the UK as it contains ivory.
