Figures watch from a rocky coast as a ship navigates tempestuous waters in this dramatic nineteenth-century seascape, white water crashing across its decks as it lists violently to one side. A vast cliff overlooks the scene, whilst seabirds fly overhead. Well presented in a dark frame with a gilt slip. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. Two small canvas tear repairs, and inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Scuffs to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
