Description
A very impressive and finely detailed still life in oil, on canvas laid to board, depicting a Victorian copper kettle and an adjustable brass chamberstick with conical snuffer. The artist's choice of interior adds a softer light to the scene, and while the metallic objects could become cold and distant as a subject, the use of textiles in the background contributes to the warm and balanced composition. Well-presented in a leaf and berry carved wooden frame, as shown. Unsigned.Condition
There is some craquelure and surface abrasion, expected for a picture of this age. There is also some paint loss to the left edge, as shown. The frame has some minor scuffing.
