In Greek mythology, Cassandra was a Trojan princess who, after rejecting the romantic advances of Apollo, was given the ability to see the future, but cursed to never be believed. She is depicted here gazing upwards with an expression of dismay, able to foresee tragedy (such as the fall of Troy) but powerless to stop it. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame with foliate mouldings and an oak running pattern. Unsigned. On canvas laid to board.
