Framed 19th Century Oil - A Busy Dutch Port
Description
An accomplished 19th century maritime painting depicting a serene Dutch harbour with sailing vessels on calm waters. Several boats with brown sails dot the estuary, whilst figures gather on the shoreline in the foreground. A cityscape with church spire is visible in the distance on the left. The painting is well presented in a piercework frame with acanthus ornamentation. Unsigned. On canvas.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration to the varnish layer and craquelure to the surface. The canvas has been fully relined to the reverse and inspection under UV light reveals areas of restoration. There is a small loss to the frame's lower rail (right side). The overall condition of the artwork is very good.
