A charming late 18th-century Georgian watercolour depicting a governess teaching sheet music to three young girls who gather around her with evident enthusiasm for the lesson. The intimate scene unfolds against a garden backdrop featuring draped curtains and classical architectural elements. Beautifully presented behind glass in an antique gilt frame with beaded moulding. This piece was acquired alongside its companion work 'Children at Play' (SX964). On paper.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. There is a small tear to the watercolour (lower right). Discolouration and minor abrasions throughout. Minor wear noted to the gilt frame, enhancing its patina. The overall condition of the artwork is good.
