Description

Dated 1860 to the lower right, this work depicts 'Redshirt' soldiers, who were followers of the patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi. In 1860, Garibaldi led the Redshirts in the Expedition of the Thousand, which concluded with the annexation of Sicily and contributed to the creation of a unified Kingdom of Italy. Indistinctly signed to the lower right. Well presented in a vintage gilt frame with a washline mount. On paper.

Tear to the upper left. Discolouration to the paint. Marks and scuffs to the frame. Discolouration to the mount.
