Description

A fine 17th-century botanical engraving depicting various species of myrtle, taken from the landmark botanical book Hortus Eystettensis, published in 1613. The plates were engraved primarily by Wolfgang Kilian, Friedrich Bouttats, Levinus Hulsius, and Dominicus Custos, working from drawings by Basilius Besler, the Nuremberg apothecary who compiled and oversaw the entire work. Beautifully presented in a stained oak frame, mounted behind glass. On laid.

Condition

Light foxing and discolouration to the paper. The frame has minor surface wear, including small scuffs and indentations. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
