On canvas on stretcher.This painting has seen better days. The condition is typical for a painting of its time, with discolouration and surface dirt to be found across all of the paint surface. There are an number of chips to the paint surface, predominantly to the lower quadrant; the most notable being a significant dent in the canvas, creating two rips in the canvas, the larger being 5 cm long. The paint surrounding these rips has flaked and chipped from the canvas. Cracking and some paint loss has also occurred in the bottom right hand corner, slightly inhibiting the reading of the artist signature and date. Various scratches, marks and scuffs can be located across the paint surface. There is a faint crease running along areas on the paint surface on the edge of the top stretcher beam. A repair has been made to the back of the canvas over a tear to the top right quadrant of the painting, but the material used to repair the work is slightly coming off.
