A fine 19th century Dutch oil in the style of Jacobus Van Der Stok (1795-1864). The scene depicts a tranquil coastal village with figures gathered along a sandy shore beside moored boats, whilst distinctive buildings with stepped gables and a church tower crown the elevated landscape beyond. The composition is masterfully balanced between the expansive, luminous sky that dominates the upper two thirds and the animated foreground characteristic of 17th Century Golden Age landscape painting. Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. There is craquelure to the surface. The painting looks to have been recently cleaned and revarnished. Inspection under UV light reveals minor overpainting. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.
