This intimate figurative painting depicts a reclining nude, rendered in a style reminiscent of English painter Ivon Hitchens (1893-1979). Warm flesh tones contrast beautifully against a textured background of meadow flowers and foliage. The artist's loose, impressionistic style hints at similar works by Hitchens. The painting has been well presented in a handsome gilt effect frame with fluted cove. Unsigned. On canvas laid to board.
Condition
Signs of previous restoration to the oil. The canvas has been laid down to hardboard for stability. There are three linear surface marks running through the nude figure from left to right. Minor abrasion and losses to the edges of the composition. The gilt-effect frame is in very good condition.
