Gerard Pieter Adolfs was a Dutch painter and architect. His oeuvre was diverse in both medium and subject, comprising paintings, drawings, etchings and sketches. Adolfs travelled through many countries for inspiration. Among his favoured places were Java, Bali and Japan. He earned the appellation of “The Wizard of Light" by the way he painted the ordinary lives of the native people steeped in an atmospheric tropical sun.
