Description

This classical 19th, possibly 18th century still life features an abundant arrangement of fruits including a pineapple, grapes and peaches set against a dramatic landscape with stormy skies. A small visitor perches on a peach, delighted with his find. Executed in the distinctive style of George William Sartorius (1759-1828), the artwork is rendered with exquisite craftsmanship, reflecting the artist's meticulous attention to detail and refined technique. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in a burr walnut frame. On canvas laid to panel.

Condition

Discolouration to the varnish, craquelure and abrasions throughout. Losses to the paint layer noted to the right. The artwork has undergone restoration and the canvas has been laid to panel. Areas of heat damage resulting in a textured surface. Small areas of overpainting. The frame shows signs of wear consistent with age, including scuffs, indentations and losses throughout.
