This charming 19th-century genre scene depicts a bride and groom on the eve of their wedding, surrounded by family and friends in a moment of eager anticipation. The atmosphere is charged with warmth and excitement; the collective energy of the gathering is rendered vividly throughout the room. Unsigned. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame. On panel.

Condition

Discolouration to the varnish. Fine craquelure and light abrasions throughout. There is a split in the panel, which has been previously restored - the artwork has been examined and is structurally stable. Small areas of overpainting visible under UV light. Overall the artwork remains in good condition for its age. Wear to the frame, including scuffs, chips and fine cracking. The frame has been previously restored, including a repair to the lower right. Overall the frame also remains in good condition for its age.
