Follower of Carmichael - Framed Late 19th Century Oil Returning to the Harbour
Description
A dramatic maritime scene captured in the manner of James Wilson Carmichael (1800-1868). The composition depicts a tired fishing boat attempting to enter a harbour in rough faring conditions. The painting bears the signature 'J. W. Carmichael' to the lower right, however we do not believe the oil is by the James Wilson Carmichael (1800-1868). Presented in a dark wooden frame. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Several canvas tears have been fully repaired to the reverse of the painting. Various retouching visible across the surface of the artwork. The largest repair has caused some undulation to the canvas. Varnish discolouration and dirtying visible to the surface of the oil. Some marks and light rubbing noted to the edges of the wooden frame.
