Follower of Birket Foster - Framed 19th Century Watercolour Calling the Cows

Description

A fine late 19th century watercolour in the style of renowned Victorian watercolourist Myles Birket Foster (1825-1899). The scene depicts two girls calling cows off the Scottish highlands for daily milking. Both girls have pales to hand, however the grazing cattle look uninterested by there presence, as does the dog that is fast asleep to the left of the scene. Unsigned. The charming watercolour has been well-presented in a decorative gilt frame with carved acanthus pattern and new card mount. On paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration to the watercolour and stable cracking to the gilt frame

Artist Biography

Myles Birket Foster RWS (1825-1899) was a British illustrator, watercolourist and engraver in the Victorian period. Foster exhibited over 400 works at the Old Watercolour Society of which he was elected a member in 1862.
