Description

A fine watercolour painting with body colour by the artist Florence A. Saltmer. The scene depicts an orchard view with sheep. The colour palette, brushwork and overall composition clearly highlight the artist's proficiency in the subject and medium. Signed very faintly to the lower right-hand corner. There is a label on the reverse inscribed with the artist's name, title and biographical details. Well-presented in a double card mount and in a distressed gilt effect frame, as shown. On watercolour paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Small scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

Florence A. Saltmer (act. 1882-1908) was a landscape and genre painter born in Worthing, Sussex. Any art education has yet to be discovered, but she was a prolific exhibitor and showed at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Grosvenor Gallery, New Gallery, Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Society of Women Artists, Arthur Tooth & Sons and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Bushey Museum and Art Gallery have a small collection of her work. Her death was recorded in Kingsbridge, Devon.
