A very finely detailed miniature portrait of a monk in watercolour, with gum arabic. Dated 1828, this early 19th Century work is in a typical style for the period, with elaborately detailed hair and beard, and a fine sense of realism. The artist has a clear and masterful proficiency in the medium, carefully managing form and light on a minute scale. On card laid to pink wove. There is a graphite drawing to the reverse, also dated 1828, depicting a ballrom scene with figures. Dated.

In very good condition for a picture of this age. Some light surface discolouration, mostly to the backing paper.
