A fine 19th century portrait depicting a Victorian woman of evident respectability, dressed in a dark velvet gown with a white lace collar fastened by a cameo brooch and delicate drop earrings. Her centre-parted hair is neatly swept back in the fashion of the 1860s–70s. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in a decorative gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. The artwork has been previously restored, including relining. Inspection under UV light reveals overpainting. Overall, the artwork remains in good condition for its age. Some wear to the frame, including scuffs, chips and indentations.
