Fine Framed Mid 19th Century Watercolour - Out to Sea
Description
A well composed watercolour study of sailing ships caught in rough seas. Smaller rowing boats appear to be rowing towards the larger boats, perhaps rescuing the crew of a stricken ship. With body colour. Well presented in a washline mount and gilt effect frame. Indistinctly signed to the lower right. Inscription to the reverse of the frame reads 'Formerly in the collection of Mr M.G. Baldwin, Middleton Village, Ilkley, 1965'. On watercolour paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. Minor marks to the substrate. Scuffs to the frame.
