An exquisite early/mid 19th century Dutch seascape with a sailing vessel flying the Dutch flag. The draughtsmanship in this piece is outstanding, and obviously the hand of an experience marine artist. Layers of fine brushwork in undulating blue, green and yellow hues create rolling waves. Even the tiny figures are painted with care and attention. The sky is infused with the pale lilac light of dusk at sea. Very well presented in a washline mount and simple wooden frame. Unsigned.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Light foxing to the upper right quadrant. .oag The frame is in good condition.
