A fine architectural work in oil, depicting the side door of a church or cathedral with a gothic ogee arch and statuary. The artist has employed careful brushwork to relate delicate forms with a sense of realism, and the angle to the building adds interest to the composition. The canvas has a stamp to the reverse from 'Leon Berville, Paris, Rue de la Chaussée d'Antin 25', an art supplies shop in Paris known to have been used by Vincent Van Gogh, with the address dating to c.1886-1888.
