A very fine and remarkable album survival, containing 38 leaves of graphite drawings, depicting British landscapes, church ruins, architectural views and pastoral scenes. Dating from 1839 to 1851, some drawings are inscribed with place names, including Southampton, Devon, St Mawes Castle, Cornwall and Virginia Water, Surrey. The album demonstrates a development of technical skill and proficiency, with far more impressive works on later pages, as well as smaller studies of garden buildings and rock formations.
Of particular interest are two drawings, depicting St Mawes Castle, Cornwall, and Frithelstock Priory, Devon, which both have accompanying hand written inscriptions from 1842.

Unsigned dated and inscribed. On wove.In very good condition for an album of this age. The pages are clean, with only minor surface discolouration and age toning. There are some very light, scattered foxing spots, however these are minor sparse. The bindings are intact, but loose. Wear and splitting to the spine and boards. The first and last two pages of the album are heavily creased, but are blank. Minor scuffing to the inscribed pages.
