Description
A romantic landscape painting by Dutch artist Ferdinand Hendrik Sypkens (1813–1860), depicting a woodland trail with travellers. A rider on horseback and two figures on foot draw the eye into the scene, before your gaze travels upward to a rocky outcrop crowned by ancient ruins. The work is presented in a gilt-effect frame with a lamb's tongue running pattern, and signed lower left. On canvas laid to panel.Condition
A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. The canvas has been previously laid down to panel for support. The frame has minor surface wear and small chips. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
