Ferdinand Gustaaf Oldewelt (1857-1935) - Framed Oil Hayship Harbour
Description
This Impressionist oil painting depicts a Dutch harbour scene (probably Rotterdam) with workers unloading a ship with hay. The artist employs loose, impressionistic brushwork to convey the textural qualities of aged wood and rippling water, while figures can be seen working hard onboard. The painting has been well presented in an elaborate gilt frame. Signed 'Oldewelt' to the lower right. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. The oil is in good condition with minimal craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals no signs of restoration. The gilt frame has some wear. Stable cracking visible to the various running patterns and mouldings. Light rubbing to the gilt on all sides. Small chips and losses. Areas of damage to the window rebate. The frame has a lovely patina. The overall condition of the artwork is good.
