Description

This early 19th Century oil cityscape is a fine example of the prestigious artist's portfolio. The scene shows a view of the Thames embankment, looking out across the river on a sunny day. Barges sail up and down the water and people stroll along the pavement with foliage in the foreground. The artist has signed to the lower left corner. On canvas.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some wear to the canvas at the outer edges.

Artist Biography

Fairlie Harmar, Viscountess Harberton (1876–1945) was an English painter. She was born in Weymouth, Dorset, and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art. Lady Harberton was married to Ernest Pomeroy, 7th Viscount Harberton.
Whilst reviewing Lady Harberton's work in 1918, Ezra Pound thought she was a man, writing "Mr. F. Harmer [sic] has put good work into it".
