A fine and interesting 19th Century coastal genre scene with figures, by the artist F.A. Bostock. Entitled 'The Great Tor', the artist has depicting this highly recognisable geological formation at Penmaen, in South West Wales. The figures, including a mother or governess and several children, have taken their shoes off to play on the sand. With the artist's original label to the reverse, inscribed 'The 'Great Tor' Penmaen, painted by J.A. Bostock'. Also with frame makers stamp 'J. & W. Vokins, 14 Great Portland St' to the backing board, dating to the period 1859-1896. Well-presented in a light wood frame and card mount, as shown. On watercolour paper.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some heavy discolouration to the lower right and lower edge. Some surface dirt in places, and to the lower edge of the mount. The frame is in very good condition with little wear.
