Eugene Damblans was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, to a French family. He began his career as an illustrator for Argentine newspapers before eventually settling in Paris, where he started collaborating with La Caricature in 1890. In the following years, up to 1915, he contributed illustrations to numerous periodicals, including Le Pèlerin, La Terre Illustrée, Le Journal des Voyages, La Jeunesse Amusante, Le Petit Journal Illustré, L’Écho de Noël, and L’Illustré National. From 1920 onward, Damblans created around thirty comic-style illustrated novels for La Bonne Presse, among them Le Roi de Paris and Trésor de la Dévadassi. In addition to his work in the press, he was active as a watercolorist and book illustrator. Eugene Damblans died in Bois-Colombes in January 1945.
