A very fine interior scene in watercolour with sgraffito, depicting children at their desks in a schoolroom by the artist Ethel May Mallinson. Mallinson has a clear proficiency in the medium, creating a delightful sense of detail and movement in the figures. There is also a work to the reverse in watercolour, depicting a workers yard with figures. Signed on the reverse.On watercolour paper.Condition

Artist Biography
Ethel May Mallinson (1878-1970) was a painter born in Halifax who specialised in landscapes in watercolour and showed twice with the YUA at the turn of the century. She also showed at the GI, RSA and RSW. Her death was recorded in Tonbridge, Kent.
