Ernest William Haslehust was a painter and illustrator, born in Walthamstow, East London, who studied at the Slade School under Legros. A watercolour and landscape painter, he exhibited widely and is best remembered for his illustration of the Beautiful Britain series of books. He was a member of the Langham Sketching Club and designed posters for the LNER and LMS. His art was featured in many magazines of the day including the Illustrated London News and Tatler. Haslehurst exhibited at the Imperial Arts League, RA, RWA, RBC, RBA and was elected RI in 1924. Examples of his work are held by Bristol Art Gallery, Newport Art Gallery, NRM, Sheffield Art Gallery and Oldham Art Gallery and in the GAC. Johnson & Greutzner incorrectly record his surname as ‘Haslehurst’
