Artist Biography
Ernest Llewellyn Hampshire (1882-1944) was a painter, architect, and etcher born in East Dulwich, London. He also trained as an architect when he studied in London at the Architectural Association. His artistic studies were at Clapham School of Art, at Heatherley's, at the Central School of Arts and Crafts and in Cornwall under J. Noble Barlow. Hampshire qualified as an architect in 1905 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects the following year. He exhibited at the RA, RI, ROI, and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and was married to the painter Maria Eaton. A painting by him is in the collection of Bruce Castle Museum, Tottenham. His death was recorded in Wanstead, now east London, in 1944.
