This vibrant watercolour study by British artist Erik Smith (1914-1972), depicts architectural elements on the Grand Canal in Venice. The artist's fine ink detail and impressionistic application of paint, brings an energetic quality to the colourful canal scene. Signed to the lower right in graphite. Painter, watercolourist, lithographer, etcher and designer of stained Glass. Born in Birmingham in 1914. Died in 1972. Studied at Willesden School of Art 1934-1936 and at the R.C.A. Exhibited at the R.A., R.W.S., R.B.A., R.E. and R.W.S. Represented in many public collections.
