Emil Axel Krause was a painter and photographer who was born Friedrich Augustus Emil Krause in Biesdorf, Germany, in 1871. It is thought that he was tutored in painting by his artist father Franz Emil Herman Krause (1936 - 1900). The father and son moved to the Stockport, UK together and later to Conway, North Wales. Krause started signed his work with his mother';s maiden name, Emil Albert Stock, as anti-German sentiment was on the rise before the first World War.
He died in Southport in 1945 where he was buried in the Duke Street cemetery beside his mother and brother. His work is included in the collection of the Atkinson Art Gallery in Southport.
