From an album of pen and wash drawings by Elizabeth Hill. This fascinating little sketchbook contains primarily West of England landscapes as well as a small handful which depict London and abroad. Each is inscribed with the location by the artist. Album flyleaf inscribed "F.E. Hill, Lambirdge, Bath, Sept 3rd 1832". "This sketchbook belonged to Elizabeth Hill of Flemington, Devon. She gave it to Sir Robert Wyllie of Flemington House. Her grand-aunt Elizabeth Hill was Maid-of-Hour in the time of K. George III. She married a cousin of the same name. They belonged to the Hills of Hawkstone, descended from the Rt Honble. Sir Richd. Hill. a privy councillor in the reign of George III, related to Sir Roland Hill, to Lord Hill and Lord Bentinck. Katie and Dora Wyllie inherited from them the curiosities collected by the Maid-of-Honour in the 18th cent." Collection Code 20CA
