Elisha Kirkall - Original 1734 Mezzotint. Printed in brown ink. Published by Elisha Kirkall 1734. From a set of 7 Raphael Cartoons. Sanders of Oxford had this on sale for £400. Unsigned. On laid. In good condition with some minor discolourations as shown. Trimmed at plate.

Elisha Kirkall (c.1682 - 1742) was a printmaker, traditionally wrongly called 'Edward'. born in Sheffield, and believed to have worked in London c.1700. Kirkall worked in a wide variety of types and genres and pioneered a unique chariscuro technique in the 1720s combining woodcut, etching and mezzotint.
