A charming street scene depicting a high street in Liverpool. Many of the retailers featured in the scene were based in Liverpool at the time this painting was created. Signed to the lower left. Presented in a gilt frame. On paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. A couple of small scratched to the upper half of the glass on the frame.

Artist Biography

Edwin Robert Beattie was a painter born in Liverpool he was the eldest son of Robert Beattie, a portrait painter who flourished in the early part of the 19th century. After a diverse livelihood in this England and in Canada as a photographer, he settled in Lancashire as a landscape painter, making a name with his drawings of old buildings, manor houses and the like as a journeyman artist. Many of his works are in the Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston who held an exhibition of his work in 2002.
