Edward Davies RI (1841-1920) was a landscape artist born in Houndsditch, London, who chiefly painted views in Scotland, Wales, and the Isle of Man. He joined his father's cigar-making business and in the 1860s relocated to Leicester, still working as a cigar maker. His art education is as yet unknown but he began to exhibit nationally in 1880 at the Royal Academy of Arts and in 1896 he was elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and later to the British Watercolour Society. Davies also showed at the RBSA, Baillie Gallery, DG, ISSPG, Nottingham Castle Museum, RBA and the ROI. He travelled extensively in England, Scotland and Wales. Several paintings by him are held by Leicester Arts and Museums Service and Leicestershire County Council. He was the father of the lesser-known artist George Edward Davies. Davies lived for over fifty years in Leicester, where he died on 29 August 1920.
