Edouard Woutermaertens (1819-1897) was a Belgian artist who specialised in painting animals. He was born in Kortrijk, Belgium, and studied at the Academy of Kortrijk. After completing his academic training he became a pupil of the animal painter Lodewijk (Louis) Robbe. Taking after Robbe, Woutermaertens specialised in animal scenes, particularly of sheep. He even kept his own flock of sheep. He exhibited widely, including at salons in Bruges, Brussels, Paris, and Boulogne-sur-Mer.
