Description
A hand-painted gouache costume design by the French illustrator and decorator Édouard Halouze (1895–1958). The design depicts a stylised cowboy, rendered in Halouze's signature Art Deco palette of cinnamon brown, mustard, navy, and orange. The wide-brimmed hat with its polka-dot band, fringed gauntlet cuffs, wrapped cartridge-style belt, and dramatically flared trousers are all highly theatrical. A small thread sample can be seen pinned to the left of the design. The illustration is beautifully presented in a contemporary oak frame. Inscribed and numbered 64. Signed lower left. On paper.Condition
Maintains a desirable character and patina. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.
