Edgar James Maybery (1887-1964) was a painter and etcher born in Newport, South Wales. Talented from an early age he attended the South Kensington Schools in London. By his mid-thirties he was a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy and also exhibited at Walker Art Gallery and at the RHA. During World War I, Maybery served in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers where he spent much of his spare time sketching, returning to his hometown after the cessation of hostilities. Maybery painted numerous views of South Wales and the West of England, he primarily painted watercolours but is also known for his topographical etchings. Oil paintings by Maybery are in the collection of Newport Art Gallery. His death was recorded in Pwllheli.
