A truly exquisite miniature Victorian portrait of a gently smiling, older woman with fine, lace clothes and elegantly styled hair. The woman has strikingly piercing blue eyes and a warm, subtle smile. unlike many other portraits of older women of this era, this lady holds great warmth in her expression. On the reverse of the painting inside the frame is inscribed "'Danny' Mrs J. E. Eadon, nee Parkinson, of Doncaster." The lady is Anne Eadon (born Parkinson). She was born in 1827, in Doncaster, to Samuel Parkinson and Sarah Parkinson. Anne married John Alfred Eadon in 1846, at age 19. Anne passed away in 1913, at age 85.
The painting is in the traditional style of Victorian miniatures, with minuscule brush strokes create form and texture in the skin. The painting is presented in a modern brass oval frame with green velvet backing, domed glazing and a brass hanger.
On bone-like substrate.The painting itself is in fine condition with no foxing, fading or discolouration. There is a large vertical crack to the substrate at the right side. The frame has general tarnishing to the brass.
